Ethan Gurwitz is an active performer, with thirteen years of experience on French horn. He has taken weekly horn lessons with Gregory Hustis (2018-21), Alex Kienle (2022), and Patrick Hughes (2022-23). He has performed with the UT and SMU Wind Ensembles, Orchestras, Operas, and Horn Choirs, as well as the Victoria Symphony.
In June 2024, he performed as co-principal horn with the UT Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. On October 15 and 17, 2021, he was a featured soloist with the Meadows Symphony Orchestra alongside internationally renowned French horn player James Thatcher and two other SMU students on a performance of Hubler Concerto for Four Horns and Orchestra. He has been principal horn on an opera production three times: in 2022, UT Butler Shakespeare Gala, in 2021, Ward The Crucible (SMU), and in 2020, Mozart Cosi fan tutte (SMU).
Ethan has worked as a pit musician with the Woodlawn Theatre in San Antonio, TX for two productions: The Little Mermaid (2022) and Beauty and the Beast (2019).
In June 2022, he performed as a part of the International D-Day Memorial Service with the SMU Mustang Band in Normandy, France.
He also teaches lessons to local studio. He has taught masterclasses and lessons to students at Westlake High School in Austin, TX, Claudia Taylor Johnson High School in San Antonio, TX, and Judson High School in Converse, TX, that cover TMEA All-State etudes, basic French horn technique, and/or marching band music.
